I feel OLD

I feel old today.

Exactly 15 years ago today….I was in a lot of pain, no pain meds for me but she was finally coming.
She was early but I held her longer than expected.  She decided to try to come at 25 weeks  and I spent the 9 weeks in the hospital on bed rest fighting preterm labor and preterm dilatation.  I was still in labor but I was allowed go home.  I was only home for week before my water broke on the July 24 and then labor stopped- completely stopped. I was induced on the 25th  first thing in the morning. She was born in the early afternoon. She was a healthy, 7 lb 6 oz baby girl with a full head of dark curly hair, bright blue eyes and was a precious little angel.

Today…She still has the dark curls, her eyes never changed they are still bright blue, she is almost 6 feet tall, she wears size 13 shoe and she is bigger than me. She is not an angel she is a  TEENAGER…

Happy Birthday Miss E!

Moving

Moving Day is almost here! Tomorrow!

Drop me a email if you would like the new phone # and address or directions to the house.

I am so excited.

I have a great story to tell about the night we signed the lease.

We surprised my kids Wednesday Night when we picked them up.  They asked where we are going tonight.  I said we are going home. They then asked what’s for dinner. I said we’ll grab something on the way. We got to the end of their street and in order to leave their development we normal turn right.  This time we turned left.  My youngest asks “where are we going”.  My oldest says “I know were we are going…Mom and Alex are taking us to the Beach Club for dinner”….then about a mile down the road we turned left, before the Beach Club. They are confused, “Where are you guys taking us” they ask again.  We don’t say anything.  We pull into the driveway and my oldest asks…”why are we here?” I said to him we told you we were going home.  The boys start jumping up and down – screaming with excitement.  I was covered with kisses – I guess they like the fact we are less than 5 minutes from their house with their Dad.

My EX on the other hand was pissed beyond belief. He sent one his hate- o-grams.  I did not even bother to answer it. He is not worth it.

Lets play the Good News Bad News Game !

This is one of those good news bad news days…..

The Good News …..

The car passed Maryland inspection and finally has MD plates.

The Bad News…..

My driver's license is still suspended caught in red tape snafu between New Hampshire and an unpaid ticket in New Jersey…NH still says the ticket must be paid and $100 fine paid to the state of NH in order release my driving privileges and then for me to get my Maryland License – or – we can get the state of New Jersey to issue a clearance letter saying that the ticket is taken care of. However New Jersey cannot issue a clearance letter for a ticket that doesn't exist. We have filled an appeal and are waiting to see what happens next

The Really Really Good News

We are moving this Saturday.  We have secured an apartment about 2 minutes from the kids house in Calvert County).  It is a cute little 2 bed room apartment well within our price range and includes utilities.

Bad News….maybe not bad but disappointing

To be honest….I have been hoping for the past few weeks that our friend from New Hampshire would back out of  Pennsic thus leaving us to gracefully step out of the trip with out disappointing him but we haven't been heard from him in about a month. We needed to take our apartment right away or lose it…So after much discussion we have decided that as much as we would have enjoyed our first Pennsic, it would leave us too tight for the month of August.

I have been so sick over the past several months and missed a lot of time at work, Alex & I have used all of our vacation time; we both would have to take the Pennsic War week without pay.  We have reviewed the finances and while we could honestly do it, we would be flat broke at the event (even to the point where we're looking at classes and hemming and hawing about the ones that charge more than buck for the classes) and we would be tight for the next several weeks afterward. We have a choice. We could go to Pennsic and be very tight  until September (we're talking ramen noodles and mac-n-cheese tight)what with keeping up with rent (we really would like to not tick off our new landlord by being late with the rent). Or we can not go to Pennsic, eat well, not stress out over finances, keep the landlord happy and the pantry filled with good food and start setting aside $30 a week for next Pennsic and go with over $1,500 in spending money.
At Least this year we got closer than ever before!

Good News ….More time to sew and be ready for next year.

Doh

Can you say Doh

I feel like a bad country and western song…..(a pissen and moaning type song) The cat died, the washer ran away and the truck don’t work…twang….The flood washed away all our be-longings and the doublewide…twang….. Your drivers license is suspended…..twang…and there ain’t no Beer !!!!

Last week I went to the DMV to finally get my Maryland drivers license & MD license plates . I held NH plates so long because of the insurance.  Our Maryland insurance is more than double our NH insurance OH Well. The people at the DMV were wonderful and so nice, I was surprised…I was told horror stories of MD DMV.  I had to do my plates first. I got my Maryland plates Yeah! Next step drivers licensee. I had all the paper work and everything is going smoothly. They take my picture (I am wearing my fav. Blouse and I even liked the picture). I surrender my NH drivers license. She runs a check and Bamm my driving privileges come up suspended.  They say they are sorry…(insert the Seinfield - SOUP NAZI voice) NO LICENSE for YOU. They give me a number to call. I call NH and get the rudest person ever. She says you have an outstanding ticket in New Jersey. I know I don’t of any tickets, I only ticket I ever got was in 1987.   She gives me a number to call in NJ and says I have to pay $100 for reinstatement after they receive a clearance letter from NJ. I call NJ DMV. They look me up and they do not find any ticket for me. They pass me around to about 10 different customer service people, all who can’t find any outstanding tickets. I call NH back and explain this to them and ask them for a reference # for the ticket.  I call NJ back go through it all again.  NJ says there is no ticket for me and the reference # does not match me. I ask them to issue the clearance letter. New Jersey says they can’t, since there is nothing to clear. I go back and forth with them but they do not budge. I call NH and they don’t budge – they have to have the clearance letter and $100. I call NJ back…I have talked to them so many times I have learned all their names. Tracy in the DMV office in NJ finally agreed to call NH.  She said to give her till Friday to try and resolve it.

I spoke to Tracy on Monday and she said there was not anything they could do. NH must have a clearance letter, which they can’t issue.  I will need to file an official appeal to the suspension.

During all this my MD insurance company ran a check and guess what my driver’s license is suspended. They called and I explained everything to the Lady from the insurance company. I just got a call from the insurance lady.  The very nice woman did her own investigating – NO Tickets for me in any state. She even called NH and they told her what they have been telling me. The insurance company is going to help me file the appeal, but in the mean time…no driving for me. d’oh.

If it weren't for bad luck I would not have any luck at all.

Brilliant and spiritual! You are a Mystic Theurge!
Score! You have a prestige class. A prestige class can only be taken after youve fulfilled certain requirements. This may mean that youre an exceptionally talented person, but it probably doesn't.
The Mystic Theurge is a combination of a cleric and a mage. They can cast both arcane and divine spells, and are good at both, making them pretty terrifying on the battlefield. They have more raw spellpower than just about any other class.
You're both intelligent and faithful, but not violent or deceitful. I guess that makes you a pretty good person.

Which Dr. Seuss Book Are YOU

You are: Horton Hears a Who!

Horton Hears a Who! is a story about an elephant with a good heart and an activist ethic. Like Horton, you're a very nice person, and you're very observant about the world around you. You are more likely to get involved with political or activist causes. You also tend to be more whimsical and creative than down to earth.

The lower your Grinchification score, the nicer you are.
The higher your Cathatitude/Hoponpoppiness score, the more whimsical and creative you are.
The higher your Loraxity score, the more concerned you are with the world around you, politics and activism.

Challenge minus "the MOM"/Chancellor of Minors

Hi All,

I did not make the Challenge of the Heart event this weeknd. I had some neat projects for the kids. A cooling “COOL” beaded necklace project made from damp sponges cut into bead shapes,  basic sewing card project  (bears, lady bugs, frogs and clowns) and a candle painting project. Plus 2 games to play and make up shadow puppet play.  I have been told that the children attending had a great time but there were no organized activities.

OK ….Why did I not show up???

Well, Friday I wasn’t feeling well. Achy and dizzy if I moved to fast.  Plus as stated in my previous post my sugar was elevated and we were trying to get it to go down. I figured the dizziness was the side effect if being so high.  Right before lunch I went up to do some filing in the file room.  I got so dizzy that I fell down and could not get up again. Everyone thought I’d gone to lunch.  When the receptionist realized that I was not had not she went looking for me. She found me on the file storage room floor, I was so dizzy and I was unable to stand with out help. They got me back into the AC and I checked my blood sugar…OH POOPIE – 487 (normal should be less than 130). I called Joslin and they said I needed to go to the nearest Emergency Room, my co-workers wanted to call rescue I did not want that.  I called my Dad and he came up and took me to the ER. Joslin called them and let them know I was on my way. Alex came up after they put the wheels back on the station wagon (we were getting the brakes serviced). When I got to the ER my sugar was 491.  All kinds of tests later and an IV with an insulin drip. They found out that my white count was elevated.  The Doctor checked my ears they found both were infected. My family Dr noticed the fluid in my ears 2 weeks ago and said that it was ok and to take some Sudafed. It wasn’t that painful so I did not think there was anything wrong other than normal allergies and my ears hurt when my sinuses are bad.  The ER said an inner ear infection caused the dizziness. The infection also caused the increased in blood sugar, it is also what inhibited the insulin from working (this is the exact same thing that happened when I had phenomena this past FEB). They added IV antibiotics and something for the dizziness, About 3 hours later the numbers started to drop. The meds made me tired. As if someone flipped a switch the ER went crazy busy.  I no longer need intense care and I guess they needed the bed space. I was discharged and sent home to get rest and stay off my feet. We picked up the boys and went home. Alex ran some of the Children’s corner stuff up to the event. I slept until he got home, then I ate a little something and went back to sleep. I got up in the morning and I was still dizzy but I was trying to get it all together to make the event. Finally the boys and Alex put their collective feet down and I went back to bed. I slept until 2pm. I did feel better when I got up. Weak but better.

On Sunday afternoon we took the boys to the Cove Point Pool. I went into the pool careful not to get my head in the water, I basically sat on the edge of the pool and watched the boys dive and go down the waterslides.  I lasted about 20 mins before I needed to rest, I slept in the sun for about 2 hours while the boys played. I guess I wasn’t ready for such an adventure.

Where we are today, my blood sugar numbers are down and not climbing. (160-200 range) I rattle when I walk from all the meds I am taking. I am still tired, but I will live.

I just feel so bad about not making the event. I did not want to disappointed the children.

All is not well on the Diabetes front...

My blood sugar for some unknown reason has decided to spike. I honestly have been following the new regiment to a T and have not cheated on the diet plus we increased the walking. I got my stress level down and my sugar goes up.

I called JDC* and they are really concerned. They are having me take rapid release insulin shots and upping my bed time Lantas Insulin again. So far it really hasn't helped. I am still climbing and I feel like doo-doo. Now is not the time for this nonsense, I have way too much to do.

SCA meme

SCA meme:

1. How and when did first find out about the SCA?

I have always been fond of fantasy and renaissance themes. In 2001 I subscribed to Renaissance Magazine. I was reading it at the Doctors office were I worked at when one of my patients saw it. She and her husband are in the SCA (Barony of Stonemarch East Kingdom) and they are also the owners of the Vermont Renaissance Festival  (a different kind of Ren Faire – a Ren faire for serious living history and SCA people - everything is juried. No elf ears or turkey legs http://www.vtrenfest.com/index.html  ). Ann told me about the SCA and said I would love it.  Do to my home situation I was unable to go play. In 2003 The SCA was the first activity I tried after I separated from my first husband.

2. What made you wanna come play?

The description Ann gave me was so wonderful, she said I would love it.

3. Did you ever take sewing/cooking/archery/(other things that are found within the SCA) classes in school?

YES - My mother owned and ran a ceramic’s studio and craft shop out of our home when I was growing up. She gave classes several nights a week and on the weekends, I was her helper and test student for new projects. I learned to pour/prep and paint ceramics, spin, weave, embroidery, all different types of crafts, to knit and to sew at a very early age. I even taught a few classes for her when I was in High School. I started learning to cook when I was 5-6 and by the time I was 10 I was helping out and cooking dinner for the family. In high school I took home-Ec  and took Archery for my gym for 3 years.

4. Why do you play now?

It feels like home. I finally feel like I fit in. I have made some really good friends.

5. Do you make your own garb?

Yes mine, Alex’s, the children and now our friends that we introduced the SCA their first event was memorial day weekend this year. (one of our dearest friends is making Pennsic the 2nd event he will be going too and he needs Garb)

6. Do you fight (heavy/rapier)?

 No

7. Have you ever bartered with anyone?

No, but I would be open to it.

8. What was your first event?

Lakewood Lion’s Ren-Faire Demo in Lakewood NJ run by the local SCA chapter. My first SCA event was Ghost Goblins and Ghouls.

9. Describe your first garb.

I wore loaner – Italian Ren for the first couple events. The first piece of garb I owned you may have seen.  It is the Navy blue Italian Ren laces up the front and a white cotton chemise. This dress is now my daughters (that is after I let the hem out so she could wear it)

10. Do any of the friends you had before the SCA now play also?

I have friends (My son “A” god Parents or per “A” his “fairy God Parents” – “A” was so cute when he was little) they live back up in New Hamp-ster. They want to play but Stonemarch is a huge Barony and they mostly play on the sea coast side of the state and they live in the mountains on the opposite side. (2-3 hours away) She also works a weird schedule, which will make it difficult to play.

11. What were some of your favorite books/stories as a kid?

Chronicles of Narnia and the legend of King Arthur

12. Have you registered a name?

YES

13. Have you registered Arms?

Not yet

14. What is you favorite "No Sh*t, there I was" story?

I can’t think of one right now.

15. What A&S stuff are/could you be interested in?

Lace making, Garb, Subtleties, Cordial Making, children’s playthings with in period, puppetry, Viking Wire weaving, knitting, pzanky eggs, silk painting, dyeing, Archery (need new bow first), herbs and gardening,

Thankful Thursday

A friend of mine does Thankful Thursday Lists every Thursday and I hope she doesn’t mind but I would also like to do this.  It is so sweet and makes you have to stop and think what is really important in life and the real world.

I am thankful for my children. I love them so much.  They are my pride and joy even though they drive me INSANE!!!!! I have been told that teenagers will do that.

I am thankful for my husband, my soulmate, my compliance officer and my partner in crime.  He went to Joslin with me. He is trying so hard to help me stay inline and is so supportive with my treatment. He puts up with the tons and tons of self doubt I have. He gracefully deals with my emotional craziness, besides he helped me I hide the Bodies this time ! (insert evil Laugh here)

I am SOOOooo thankful for Joslin Diabetes Center for opening a branch in Lanham, MD. I know they will get me back on track soon…..gosh I hope so.

I am thankful for sugar free cookies and sugar free Ice cream….they are my diet sanity savers.

I am thankful for good friends who stand behind me and support me even through my struggles.

I am thankful for my great friend – Kelly who is always there with a hug and support then provides the voice of reason. I will do anything for her…anything…..HUGS…the shirt off my back….. a kidney…my first born.

I am thankful for nice job. I work with wonderful caring people.

I am thankful to my Mom for finding a new OFF bug spray that doesn’t stink or irritate my skin and best of all it works !!!!!!!

I am thankful for Blockbuster Online. WOW- I have seen movies I haven’t seen for 20 years, it is like meeting up with old friends –(Dr Phibes I missed you !!!! ). We then can return them to the store and get free rentals for the ones they send us through the mail.

The last thing I am thankful for will seem a bit strange…I am thankful to all the people who pushed my buttons on Monday and most of all to the last person. This person I would never have thought would have, who did. I thank her most of all!  She was the straw that killed mousie kier and she did me a favor. Disrespect and hurt feelings were on both sides and I am hopeful that we can move on from here. The new an improved KIER will not take poopie from anyone any longer, my only regret is how is how I pushed back and how hard.  A lesson well learned, it won’t happen that way again. I am truly thankful for her.
